This is your first week and you must be having so many observations and feelings about learning at a new place, from new people and in new ways as well.
As your teacher and facilitator for ENGLISH, I am with you to bring a strong understanding of the language and use it in a smart way. We must aim at 'Communicative Competence' and we must move towards Skills of Communication in English.
Some basic things to start:
- Each language has its own alphabet, and it also has its own Grammar.
- The 26 letters of the English Alphabet make Words; words make sentences.
- For English, all the words we see are divided into nine classes or categories. These classes are called Parts of Speech. (Some say there are 08 Parts of Speech.)
- We speak words. We also speak names, actions, qualities, connectors, and exclamatory words. We speak and that is what we call a SPEECH. Every Word MUST belong to a Parts of Speech category.
- They are Nouns, Pronouns, Adjectives, Verbs, Adverbs, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Interjections and Article Determiners.
- Remember that the same word can be a Noun and in the following sentence it can be USED as a VERB.
- For example: FAST can be: VERB, ADJECTIVE, ADVERB and it can also be a NOUN!
