Module: 03 - Speaking - More of Practical Learning

This module is more of a practical approach module. We did our Podcasting under this module as well. There will be fewer questions to write much about because most of the topics are practical. Still, we need to prepare well.

Module III: Speaking

· Simple Greetings
  • What are the most common greetings in English? Make a List of the common expressions we use to wish people and respond in greeting situations.
· Pronunciation: Word Stress
Phonetics> English has 44 Sounds and based on the IPA Transcription, we can see how stress is marked as an 'apostrophe' on the transcription of the word. When we were doing pronunciation corrections -we know each word's pronunciation is divided into some parts, sometimes.
Try these words:
  • Photography
  • About
  • Generic - /dʒəˈnerɪk/ - this '  is the stress marked here. It means when we pronounce the word - our special stress/push in pronunciation will be on that part of the word.
  • Development
  • Examination
Check the pronunciation on this website now: https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/

· Conversation in Small Group
  • Compose a conversation in 100 words between a Teacher of English who is in Tashkent City Park on Sunday evening and a STUDENT.
  • Make a Short dialogue script of a conversation between two friends, planning a birthday party for their friend.
Akmal: How are you Amir? Do you remember it is Parveen's birthday tomorrow?
Amir: I am good, how are you? YES YES - I know it well that we have our friend's birthday tomorrow.
Akmal: So what should we plan?
Amir: Nothing...
Akmal: Why dear Amir, Why do you say so?
Amir: Because We have our English subject exam tomorrow. So, we will have the celebration after that only.
Akmal: Yes, I did not think of that. Even Parveen will not like to have a party on the exam day when all will be going for the exam.
Amir: True that! And you know, we will have a good celebration after doing a good exam.

· Preparing an Opening Statement for a presentation and Group Presentation

Watch this as well:

  • How to start a presentation or speech to make it more effective/impressive
  • What are the different ways to open a presentation? Explain them in 100-120 words.
· Role Plays-Language Functions
  • How can we use Role Plays in learning the English language?
  • What is the importance of Role Plays in learning a language like English, in the context of Uzbekistan?

Reading Comprehension Practice - 2

Read the following paragraph carefully and answer the questions that follow. I always enjoy the drive into Marley. It is a good straight road, with some pleasant views of the countryside on either side. There are woods and hills, villages and farms and, about halfway, a large lake. And because there is rarely much traffic on the road, I can usually enjoy the view as I drive along. I was rather annoyed the other morning, therefore, when a small green car began to drive very close behind me. I went a little faster, hoping to leave the car behind. But whenever I slowed down, the little car caught up with me. The driver, a middle-aged man, was grinning and waving to me. However, I did not recognize either him or the car. Again, I began to drive a little faster but the car caught up with me whenever I slowed down. “Perhaps I am doing something wrong,” I thought. I checked my lights and my indicator, but they were both in order. And I certainly had not got a puncture. The man was a lun...
